Goal
The goal of the project is to establish complete sustainable Internet of Things (IoT) based infrastructure laboratory for environmental parameters monitoring including pilot sensor network (an IoT lab in the open) and laboratory (in-house at the university) for data processing, sensor/nodes evaluation and development (see figure below).
By publishing data in real time, our goal is to raise awareness for pollution emission reduction that will further lead to concrete actions from which will benefit complete Montenegrin society. Within the pilot network, we will cover main and most polluted areas in Montenegro (Podgorica, Pljevlja, Nikšić, Bar, etc). Collected data will be offered to citizens, researchers and other institutions free of charge. Based on experience in installation of sensor equipment through realization of previous research projects, we are of an opinion that evaluation of sensors and their improvements should be done continuously. Sensor prices and accuracy varies on the market usually meaning that the most expensive sensors are not the best ones. Thus, existence of a laboratory for testing such equipment is a natural choice if one wants a sustainable system and continuous knowledge transfer from academia to industry.
The in-house IoT laboratory will be established within the University of Donja Gorica (UDG) and will play a key role in processing of collecting sensor data. It will be a place where we will gather researchers from different parts of world and different research areas. Young researchers and students will get opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge for solving real practical problems. Being at the edge in modern technology they will be prepared for the market. With a sensor network distributed across the country, we will be the first IoT laboratory on open in region giving the opportunity for testing proposed solutions in both laboratory and real environments.
